Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed addressed the country's parliament on Monday, heaping praise on the army for its truimph in Tigray, even as the region's embattled leader said his rebel forces were fighting back 'on all fronts'.

The defiant leader of Ethiopia’s rebellious Tigray region has called on Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to “stop the madness” and withdraw troops from the region as he asserted that fighting continues “on every front”, two days after the government declared victory.

As tens of thousands flee violence in Ethiopia's Tigray region, a clinic in a Sudanese refugee camp is seeing increasing numbers of patients.

Refugees are pouring into neighboring Sudan, where the old camp of Um Raquba near the border with Ethiopia, closed 20 years ago, was hastily reopened by the United Nations. "We have over 9,000 people in this settlement," Mohammed Rafiq Nasry, head of office of the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR in Um Raquba, told DW.

The UN Security Council held informal talks on the ongoing conflict in Ethiopia's Tigray region, a sign of growing international concern.

The Ethiopian government is facing new pressure from the US to stop the crackdown on the Tigray region, with some rights groups warning of possible war crimes in the area.
