Nigerian International Asisat Lamina Oshoala, has expressed her dissatisfaction to CAF’s decision to cancel the 2020 African Women’s cup of Nations.
CAF’s executive committee met on June 30, 2020 through video conference and amongst the several decisions taken, was that cancelling the 2020 African Women’s cup of Nations and announcing the start of the African Women’s champions league in 2021.
CAF’s decision to cancel the AWCON, has sparked diverse reactions, with some pundits describing it a backward step as far as the growth of the women’s game in the continent is concern.
Super Falcons attacker, Asisat Oshoala, who is a four times AWCON winner with the Nigerian senior women’s team, took to Twitter to express her displeasure about the decision.
“Other competitions POSTPONED but AWCON “CANCELLED” thank you once again for making us realize women’s football isn’t important to you,” she tweeted.
“congratulations on dragging us back AGAIN. Adios to all the women National teams in Africa, see y’all in 2022,” she added.
The FC Barcelona Femení forward ended with a hastag calling on CAF to “PrioritizeWomensFootball #NoExcuse
Oshoala’s tweet was retweeted by South African Goalkeeper, Kaylin Swart, who added the caption “We tire of it”
